The Product Facts table for natural health products

Most vitamin, mineral and herbal supplements sold in Canada are natural health products (NHPs). The amended Natural Health Products Regulations (s. 93.1) require a Product Facts table on the outer label, with these headings, in this order:

  1. Medicinal ingredients / Ingrédients médicinaux
  2. Uses / Usages
  3. Warnings / Mises en garde
  4. Directions / Mode d’emploi
  5. Other information / Autres renseignements
  6. Non-medicinal ingredients / Ingrédients non médicinaux
  7. Questions?

The generator renders an English “Product Facts” table and a French “Info-produit” table, which is one of the forms the regulation allows. It uses Health Canada’s standard format: title 8 pt bold, headings 7 pt bold, body text 6 pt, and a 1.5 pt frame and rules. Medicinal ingredients are listed per dosage unit, from the highest quantity to the lowest, with the source material in parentheses.

Dates and exemptions

The labelling provisions came into force on 21 June 2025, and all NHPs must comply by 22 June 2028. A Product Facts table is not required when:

  • the outer label has 90 cm² or less of available surface;
  • the whole product is used within one day; or
  • the container holds 3 or fewer dosage units.

The NPN, brand name, dosage form and net amount go on the principal display panel, outside the table.

What you must supply

Enter the uses, warnings and directions exactly as authorized in your product licence (NPN). “Questions?” needs a phone number, email address or website. Supplemented foods follow different rules (the Supplemented Food Facts table) and are not covered here.
