Draw a symbol for a number you own

This tool draws EAN-13, UPC-A and EAN-8 retail barcodes, and Code 128 for internal SKUs or lot codes, as vector SVG, PNG or PDF. It does not issue barcode numbers. Retail GTINs (UPC/EAN) must come from GS1 for your company. Example numbers in the tool are for testing only.

Check digits

EAN and UPC numbers end in a check digit. To calculate it, start from the rightmost data digit and multiply the digits alternately by 3 and 1, then sum them. The check digit is the amount needed to reach the next multiple of 10. Enter the number without the check digit and it is added for you, or enter the full number and it is verified.

Example: for 400638133393 the weighted sum is 89, so the check digit is 1 and the full EAN-13 is 4006381333931.

Size and print quality

An EAN-13 at 100% magnification is about 37.29 mm wide including quiet zones, with a nominal bar height of 22.85 mm. Your printing process and the GS1 General Specifications set the allowed magnification range, and some retailers set their own requirements. Do not shorten bar height or crowd the quiet zones, and verify a printed proof with a barcode verifier.
